Pasta Drying Rack

For those of us who love Italian food, it is fun (and delicious) to make our own pasta. In addition to the ingredients needed for the pasta, you will need a pasta drying rack.

Most people use boxed pasta they buy from the grocery store, but if you want to serve authentic and fresh pasta, there is nothing like making it from scratch. A pasta drying rack typically consists of a heavy base with a stem rising from the bottom in the center, which spreads out on the top (like tree branches) and from which you will hang the pieces of pasta. Of course, shapes vary and some racks have the rods running horizontally across the top. No matter what style you like, make certain to purchase a heavy rack with a strong supporting base.

Some pasta drying racks are made of plastic rods and some are made of metal or wood. The number of rods will vary according to models and price. A rack will hold approximately ten to twenty feet of pasta that weighs about four to six pounds. Freshly made pasta should be uniformly dried in order to ensure the freshest taste and perfect texture.

Since many people want to eat healthier and with everything going up in price except our paychecks, it only makes sense to take a little time to prepare our food ourselves when time permits. Making homemade pasta is an adventure that the entire family can enjoy. Children especially enjoy either churning the dough themselves or watching as an electric pasta maker churns out the dough. They enjoy checking the pieces as they are drying and you will be surprised how much the simple task of pasta making will bring the family together and give you a very special time to talk about and laugh about later.

As pasta shapes continue to evolve, some shapes will need a specialty drying rack in order to dry them out. This is no longer a problem as you can find many specialty stores online that carry them. Some racks are very stylish and can even be matched with the décor in your kitchen.

A pasta drying rack will allow the pasta to be spread out considerably allowing for the circulation of air between them. Check carefully how far apart the rods (or extensions) are placed, as this is very important. Also check to see if they are movable, especially if you intend to make a variety of pastas. If you decide on this type, it is better to purchase a metal pasta drying rack or a very sturdy wood one as it will need to be durable if you are moving the extensions a lot.

A pasta drying rack will start at approximately ten dollars and can go as high as one hundred dollars. Some good brands are KitchenAid, Norpro, Roma, Atlas Marcato and
Beechwood to name a few.

The pasta drying rack you purchase will depend on the style and material that you prefer. You will find some great bargains at online auction sites like Amazon and eBay. Always be sure to check the seller’s feedback rating, as you want to be comfortable making your purchase. Also check shipping rates and warranties. Also check out our Electric Pasta Machines Reviews
